Shankar Gopalan

Shankar Gopalan was appointed Thiess Group Executive - Strategy, Sustainability & Safety in June 2023.

A strong strategic and operational leader, he brings more than 20 years of international business experience working across various operational, technical engineering and strategic roles. His success as a global leader is derived from his leadership style focused on inclusion, empathy, and accountability. He is passionate about coaching and mentoring teams to achieve greater results.

Shankar is responsible for leading Thiess’ strategic growth agenda and delivering on our sustainability transformation plans across the businesses, ensuring environmental, social and governance (ESG) is embedded in our decision-making. Importantly, he is also accountable for ensuring we maintain our strong focus on our people's health, safety, and wellbeing.

Shankar holds an Executive MBA from the IE University in Spain and a Bachelor of Technology in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He has also completed a CPD Certification - Oxford Climate Emergency Program with the University of Oxford.
