Meet Argo - Technical Services Superintendent for our Queensland operations
A ‘life-time asset’ is how Argo Mukherjee describes his 15-year career at Thiess which has seen him travel halfway around the world and contribute to numerous projects.
Argo began his career with Thiess in 2006 as a Mining Engineer in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales. Today, he's a Thiess Technical Services Superintendent for our Queensland operations, leading his team to achieve best-practice resource recovery for our client.
“My current role is as much about building and developing people capability as it is contributing my technical know-how to efficiently deliver our mine plan and increase productivity for our client,” Argo said.
“It’s an opportunity to draw on my experience, identify solutions and establish new processes across the project.”
While at times challenging, this can-do approach to operational problem solving - which has defined work at Thiess for decades - is just the thing Argo enjoys most.
“Each day I’m given the flexibility and scope to stretch myself, to innovate and build new skills that have helped advance my career,” Argo said.
“This can range from working with the latest equipment and technologies to applying my smarts to benefit Thiess projects across different commodities and countries.”
“This versatility also gives me the opportunity to work alongside and learn from some of the industry's best talent.”
Working in the field is something Argo advocates for all young mining engineers.
“Working on site can be hard, away from family and friends, but as a young mining engineer it’s what you want.”
“It gives you the opportunity to prove to yourself, and others, that you can work hard and smart. It makes you a stronger, more confident leader moving forward because you’ve got first-hand field experience.”
